20th century Aubusson tapestry cartoon in the style of F. Boucher
Tapestry cartoons are image templates used by weavers to create a tapestry. Tapestries have been made this way in Aubusson, France since the 16th century. Often painted on canvas or paper, these cartoons have become popular collector's pieces. Depicting a classical scene of courtship in a rural setting, this piece has a soft color palette with deeper shades of green. The name F. Boucher is visible near the bottom, most likely used as a reference to the famous painter's style. A unique find.
Found in Ferrara.
Condition: Good. The canvas is in good condition consistent with its age and use. The picture shows signs of wear where the cartoon has been repeatedly folded. This cartoon is most likely made with a print techninque that came into use in more recent times. There is a discoloration mark in the upper left corner of the canvas.
Dimensions: H 88cm x W 123cm.
