This small Italian carafe is called a 'Boccalino' and was traditionally used to drink stronger wines in taverns. Originating in Piemonte and Lombardy, it was also brought to Switzerland by Italian immigrants. Today it makes a beautifully decorative piece, perfect on its own, as a pen holder or with flowers.
